高校生へのメッセージ
Although you may have spent all or most of your life in Japan, entering university is a wonderful time to expand your understanding of the country and culture in which you grew up. In the Japan Studies in English course we aim to guide students to think critically about Japan and its place in the world. I hope you can join us as we reconsider the idea of “Japanese-ness” together.
私の研究
My research focuses on gender and media with a particular interest in representations of women in contemporary Japan. I use discourse analysis and ethnographic methodologies and work with primary sources such as magazines, news media, online media, and ethnographic fieldwork with community groups and activists.
