高校生へのメッセージ

You have to be proactive in university. Each student's dream is unique and each of you need to create your own individual path. Apart from your courses, you will have chances to develop skills, and make connections with people who can help you reach your goals, by taking part in clubs, competitions, symposiums and internships. However, you have to actively seize these opportunities. To do that you need a clear target and confidence in yourself. As long as you have these things we can help you reach your dream.

私の研究

In the past my research focused on security issues, such as war and terrorism. My interest was based upon a desire to understand how conflicts occurred and how they might be avoided. Now my research focus is the issue of 'Violence against Women and Children’, a global problem that we are still far from solving.

In particular, I am examining how Japanese NPOs carry out activities to reduce problems in areas such as Human Trafficking, Child Abuse and Domestic Violence. Each of these are serious problems in Japanese society that still receive too little public and government attention. By comparing these NPOs' activities with those of NPOs in other countries (such as Ireland and Thailand) I hope to see how cultural, economic, and geographic factors affect the ways that the NPOs operate and the level of success that they are having.

My goal is to better understand why some solutions work in certain places but not in others. By analysing how these socio-cultural factors create barriers to success we can find ways to bypass those problems in order to allow solutions to spread more easily from one region to another. In addition, we will build up a greater overall awareness of the diversity of activities that are being applied to the problem of violence against women and children around the world, and allow a higher level of collaboration to occur between the groups working in the field.
