International Exchange Programs
Supporting international exchanges and study-abroad programs that meet specific academic objectives
Our founder Umeko Tsuda was one of the first Japanese women to study abroad. Nowadays Tsuda College has a well-developed international exchange program.
Our College has established student exchange programs with 17 universities in the following countries: the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the U.K., Australia, the Philippines, Taiwan and South Korea. We send approximately 20-30 students to these universities every year. In return, our college plays host to exchange students from these universities.
The Center for International Exchange was established for the purpose of supporting international exchanges and study-abroad programs that meet specific academic objectives of faculty and students. The center promotes international exchanges, provides information on study-abroad scholarships available to undergraduate and graduate students in various countries around the world, and helps international students studying at Tsuda College. It also has subscriptions to several magazines and other periodicals offering information on studying abroad. We provide orientation and support programs for students who wish to study abroad both on exchange / dispatch agreements and at their own expense, and arrange consultations for those students wishing to study abroad. Every year we have around 70 students who study abroad for a year or more.

European Union Institute in Japan (EUIJ)
Four Japanese colleges and universities (Tsuda College, Hitotsubashi University, International Christian University, and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies) have formed an academic consortium for EU studies, and the European Union selected this consortium to become the European Union Institute in Japan. The aim of this institute is to promote EU-related research, as well as international exchanges and activities. This is the first time that the EU has formed a tie with Japanese academic institutions, and the initiative is the result of a project to establish a worldwide base for EU activities. Drawing on the cooperative ties afforded by the formation of this consortium, the four participating universities are planning to: accept credit-sharing for EU-related subjects; develop the EUIJ Library; host EU-related symposiums; and hire researchers from the EU to conduct intensive courses. This initiative will enable Tsuda College to expand study and research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, while simultaneously contributing to the creation of a regional network of institutes of higher education in the Tokyo Metropolitan area.
